The Boston Green New Deal Coalition seeks a motivated Organizer to support the Co-Chairs and Leadership Team in carrying out Coalition priority initiatives.
Working closely and communicating consistently with the Coalition Coordinator(s) and Leadership Team to maintain coalition functionality.
Planning, scheduling, and co-facilitating Working Group and Leadership Team meetings, in consultation with members.
Prepare materials for Leadership Team and Coalition meetings, related to Organizer responsibilities.
Attend and take notes during the working group, leadership team, and full coalition meetings. Send follow up emails to members on key decisions made, and next steps.
Recruit new coalition member organizations
Support coalition governance structure decision-making process.
Assist with the coalition’s advocacy campaigns, such as organizing.
Support planning of regular strategy sessions of the Coalition Working Groups and Leadership Team.
Plan and execute social gatherings of the Coalition and Leadership Team.
Represent the Coalition at community meetings and events as requested.
Other related duties.
Experience in community organizing and environmental justice advocacy
Track record/demonstrated experience in implementing organizing campaigns and working with groups and individuals to achieve campaign outcomes.
Strong knowledge base with regard to climate change and climate justice-related issues and policies; unwavering commitment to centering justice and principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and intersectional advancement of racial, economic, environmental, and other social justice
Enthusiasm for meeting and engaging with people and a track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with people from a variety of backgrounds
Effective facilitation and excellent verbal/written communication
Ability both to take initiative and to be comfortable working as a team player and collaborator in a grassroots environment
Experience–paid or unpaid–advocating for climate policy on a municipal level, especially in Boston and/or Massachusetts
Experience running issue campaigns and/or managing volunteers
Boston residency and/or lived experience in/as a member of Environmental Justice communities
Familiarity with or membership in organizations representing Bostonians most vulnerable to climate change
Demonstrated experience organizing in multi-racial, multi-generational, and/or multi-class settings
Experience working collaboratively with coalitions in Massachusetts from sectors such as labor, healthcare, food, environmental justice, Indigenous communities, youth, immigration, and racial equity groups
This is a part-time role based in Boston working up to 20 hours/week. This position is hybrid with access to four coworking space locations in downtown Boston. Community organizing work may happen “in the field” at various locations around Boston in order to impactfully connect with community members. It will involve working in the evenings and occasionally on weekends. The role will begin as soon as you can.
Annual Salary: $40,000
